Blog 4 Continued

Throughout the span of reading Death of a Salesman, we understand that the Lowman's are very unethical. From a young age we observe Biff and we see how reckless as well as careless he is. Biff was seen as a jock, but often stole and drove without a license , he is also known for treating ladies wrong. A possible reason for biff being so reckless with the ladies is because he caught his dad cheating on his mom with that woman in Boston. Willy's whole life is based off of unethical things. He tries to kill himself multiple times, he takes $50 a week from Charley to pretend he has pay, and he gets outraged when Charley tried to give him a job. When out on dinner Happy and Biff lie about their father claiming that "he is just some guy", this is an awful thing to do with someone that has problems like Willy. When Willy sees Bernard he lies to him and tells him that Biff is making it big out West and happy is big in New York.

Blog 4 Ethics and Etiquette

Ethics are moral principles that make someone's choices in life. Ethics differ widely from society to society for example people in New York don't have the same morals as people in Texas. Ethics and morals are similar in a way that they help you decide right from wrong. Some synonyms are: Honest, proper, fair, right-minded. The problem isn't with ethics its self it is when people have bad ethics or don't understand and accept other's ethics.

Etiquette is the rules indicating a proper and polite way to act. For instance if you are at dinner and someone is seen burping, touching people with a fork, and taking their shirt off when they get full, this is seen as very disrespectful and therefore this person has no etiquette. Etiquette's rules differ a little bit in the U.S. and a lot around the world, in 'America we have similar customs and culture's therefore we have similar etiquette. Synonyms for etiquette are rules, custom, and courtesy. The problem with etiquette is that the rules for it aren't always displayed and some people don't understand all the rules.

A place where etiquette is needed is at a fancy, formal dinner; perhaps a date and you will need to be respectful. It is very important to follow proper ethics and etiquette in this setting in order to fit in and make an impression of yourself on others.

When researching you need to compile all of the facts you have discovered and be sure to cite all of the sites.

First off you have to figure out what you want to research by looking at all the topics.
When researching you need to go to the Blue Valley library page. There is a research process page that shows students how and where to attack a research paper. Using this thing allows you to narrow your topics and find out what you want to write about.
Narrow your topic
Make a research question
Find appropriate sources
The school library site has sources that are educational, and contain databases that will aid you in your research paper.
Make sure you start your paper early, don't procrastinate!
Determine which writing style you are going to do(APA,MLA)
Make sure the resources are credible and are appropriate.

DWC Quiz Throughout the 1st part of Devil in The White City persuasion is used often, although not always so keen to the eye. Holmes’s use of persuasion to lure his innocent victims to their death is a persuasion only attainable by the ethos that Holmes uses with his great façade; convincing others he is a reputable doctor. Persuasion can be found heavily in the way the architects communicate with clients to get the big jobs, architects: Mckim, Mead, White, and especially Burnham, have a way with words as well as statics of past jobs that make their rhetoric spot on. When Holmes created his new pharmacy he gained attention from several customers. Word got out that he was an intelligent, handsome, stunning young man that made his profession seem even more appealing. Persuading customers about his legitimacy and his experience proved no problem for Holmes as he was a certified physician. When persuasion is used correctly one may get their audience to do anything they want them to do.
Rhetoric is defined as "the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, esp. the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques."
